BRENDAN GALLAGHER
has been a musician nearly all his life. Some people say he was
born with a guitar in his hands. In a career spanning over thirty
years he has played guitar on recordings for artists like David
Bowie, Jimmy Little, Kylie Minogue, Karma County, David McCormack,
Paul Mac, King Curly, Lyall Adonis and more.
He has produced or co-produced over
20 albums, including two ARIA award winners - Jimmy Little’s
instant Australian classic Messenger (1999) and Karma County’s
Into The Land Of Promise (2000) – plus albums for
Lyall Adonis, King Curly, The Stumblers, LJ Hill and others.
He has composed and produced soundtracks
for documentaries for ABC and SBS television in Australia and short
films by Rachel Perkins, Jennifer Crone and Sean Kennedy.
Brendan is best known as singer/guitarist
with Karma County. Over the last ten years the band have released
five albums and toured around the world. As a songwriter he has
written perennial radio favourites like Postcard, Secret
Country, Love Sublime, Dexter & Sinistra...
His talents extend to piano, drums, percussion and bouzouki, something
that has stood him in good stead over the years as a music producer.
He has worn many hats – manager,
performer, A&R executive, engineer, booker, publicist –
everything involved in maintaining an independent career in the
music industry. He has served as an adviser on the Music Board of
the Australian Council For The Arts and Create Australia and tutored
students at Bondi Wave, Australian Institute of Music and TAFE Music
Certificate courses.
