Have been travelling OS for most of 2022 but managed to record some new things at my old friend Daniele Di Giovanni's home studio in Porto Santo Stefano, Italy while I was away. Yellow Fridge Road, the same place I recorded Short & Sweet album with The Magnolia Orchestra in 2017. I'll be finishing off those recordings at home in Sydney for (most likely) an EP to be released in 2023.

And I'll be out playing the odd solo show, Dead Marines, with Dave Mason, THE PINKS play the blues, and hopefully bring my one man show In The Shadow of the Black Love: Recording & Touring Jimmy Little's Messenger to Australian cities and towns. Have a great break, and I'll see youse all on the mean streets... That was quick. After a tricky start, where it was pulled offline for 3 weeks, my new album Restless Creature is now back up on your favourite streaming platform - Spotify, AppleMusic, YouTube etc. Or if you like old skool, I have a few copies on CD left for sale here.

I've also put pen to paper and track by track talked about the songs I recorded, mostly covers, and where/when/how/why, and who with, that they were made.

And when some element of normality returns to our lives (hopefully spring downunder) I'll be embarking on an Australian tour of house concerts. If you'd like to host one get in touch here.

So that's the first 50 years, what about the next? Well, maybe a slower pace but am almost finished mixing the Dead Marines new album - 15 new songs by myself, Bernie Hayes & Bow Campbell. Much to do. Have started work on 2 new albums.

Dead Marines are getting ready to track their second album, it's only been 15 years since debut New Day. 14 new songs aided and abetted by Lachy Dengate on drums and Pete O'Doherty (Mental As Anything, Dog Trumpet) on bass.

I started playing the guitar the week Jimmy Hendrix died so 2020 marks 50 years as a guitarist. So I'm making an album of my favourite songs, mostly covers, with my favourite people - Jonathan Zwartz, Stu Hunter, Reg Mombassa and others. Songs by Leon Russell, Scot Walker, Fab 4, Junior Parker...

Over the last ten years I've made some great connections in Italy, played a lot of shows with Aldo & Giacomo, and more recently with Youssef as well. Three nicer blokes you wouldn't meet on a day's march.

Side 1 Bianco is an echo of my formative years as a player. Listening to ABC Radio’s Room To Move at night in my room as a young’un and getting an almighty charge off great blues players like Elmore James and B.B King. Going to live shows by Zappa, Billy Thorpe, Barney Kessel, Leon Russell, AC/DC, Kraftwerk & Ry Cooder. Listening to Chuck Berry, Hendrix and José Feliciano records and more, whatever was rockin’, and trying to jam it all into how I played.

Side 2 Rosso is more about discovering and being seduced by the understated power and nuance of acoustic guitar, and the piano, and the joy of words and storytelling. Getting inside the music of Steely Dan, The Beatles (with Billy Preston), Paul Simon and Brian Wilson. Luxuriating in the soundscapes of Lalo Schifrin and Nino Rota. And coming late to the wonder of Scott Walker and Nick Lowe, trying to somehow make their patch of brilliant sky my own.

Am back from a long trip overseas (where it was very bloody cold) with a head full of ideas. I mastered my new album Wine Island coupla weeks ago and am very happy, nay, excited with the result. It's a double album, two sides of quite different material:

side 1 Bianco is a rockin' affair with a nod to my formative years as a player, channeling ZZ Top, Kraftwerk, Chuck Berry, Roxy Music, Devo and others.
side 2 Rosso is gentler, more spacious, pulling in elements from Scott Walker, Leon Russell, Beatles (with Billy Preston), Stylistics et al.

It will be available on CD & iTunes mid August and on vinyl soon after. I'll be embarking on a national tour with a band of my fave musicians Sept/Oct/Nov so keep an eye on dates page.

Meanwhile I'm finishing up producing an EP for young Australian singer/songwriter AC Danger Monaro and mid way through a new album for Bernie Hayes. Keep an eye out for Companion by Sunnyboy front man Jeremy Oxley which I produced with him and also the wonderful documentary about his life The Sunnyboy which is premiering at Sydney Opera House in June as part of Vivid Festival. Currently working on Bernie Hayes' new album and an EP by singer/songwriter Annaliese Monaro. 18 March i"m off to Toronto for Canadian Music Week (and some other business, more to come) then NYC for a few days before catching up with the missus for a coupla weeks in Europe. I'll also be checking in with some music friends in Italy to plan a tour there in November.

I'm revved up to go out and play Wine Island with a great band of some of my fave players later in 2013. Meanwhile I'm doing some other shows with THE PINKS and Dave Mason with REEL B!G DOG before I head OS, check 'dates' page for info..... Of late I've been working on Bernie Hayes new album over at Alberts. In January I'm heading up to Brisbane to mix Jeremy Oxley's EP at Ian Haug's Airlock Studio. I'll be going to see Sunnyboys with Elvis Costello in Hunter Valley 2nd February, oh yeah. And sleeping in my car, can't afford them hotel prices 'round those parts.

In August I re-mastered the two Jimmy Little albums I produced - Messenger (1999) and Life's What You Make It (2004) - plus several unreleased tracks from that recording period (Triffid's 'Wide Open Road' for instance). Stand by for some more open tune/slide guitar masterclasses later this year and check dates for some great shows coming up (like me playing piano with Texan cabaret artist Luna Tart at Sydney Fringe Festival). Meanwhile I'm beavering away on my mad double album solo project which should be available mid 2012... promise. See youse all on the mean streets...
